چکیده

We study the large deviations performance of consensus+innovations distributed detection over random networks, where each sensor, at each time k, weight averages its decision variable with its neighbors decision variables (consensus), and accounts for its new observation (innovation). Sensor observations are independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) both in time and space, but have generic (non Gaussian) distributions. The underlying network is random, described by a sequence of i.i.d. stochastic, symmetric weight matrices W (k); we measure the corresponding speed of consensus by | log r|, where r is the second largest eigenvalue of the second moment of W (k). We show that distributed detection exhibits a phase transition behavior with respect to | log r|: when | log r| is above a threshold, distributed detection is equivalent to the optimal centralized detector, i.e., has the error exponent equal to the Chernoff information. We explicitly quantify the optimality threshold for | log r| as a function of the log-moment generating function Λ0(·) of a sensor’s loglikelihood ratio. When below the threshold, we analytically find the achievable error exponent as a function of r and Λ0(·). Finally, we illustrate by an example the dependence of the optimality threshold on the type of the sensor observations distribution.

Distributed Detection over Random Networks: Large Deviations Analysis

We show by large deviations theory that the performance of running consensus is asymptotically equivalent to the performance of the (asymptotically) optimal centralized detector. Running consensus is a stochastic approximation type algorithm for distributed detection in sensor networks, recently proposed. At each time step, the state at each sensor is updated by a local averaging of its own sta...

Consensus+innovations detection: Phase transition under communication noise

We study the large deviations performance of consensus+innovations distributed detection under communication noise. We consider N agents, connected in a generic network; agents sense the environment and communicate over noisy links to detect the event of interest. The agents employ a consensus+innovations distributed detector, which operates as follows. At a time k, agent i first communicates i...

A new virtual leader-following consensus protocol to internal and string stability analysis of longitudinal platoon of vehicles with generic network topology under communication and parasitic delays

In this paper, a new virtual leader following consensus protocol is introduced to perform the internal and string stability analysis of longitudinal platoon of vehicles under generic network topology. In all previous studies on multi-agent systems with generic network topology, the control parameters are strictly dependent on eigenvalues of network matrices (adjacency or Laplacian). Since some ...

Community Detection using a New Node Scoring and Synchronous Label Updating of Boundary Nodes in Social Networks

Community structure is vital to discover the important structures and potential property of complex networks. In recent years, the increasing quality of local community detection approaches has become a hot spot in the study of complex network due to the advantages of linear time complexity and applicable for large-scale networks. However, there are many shortcomings in these methods such as in...

Distributed Detection over Random Networks: Large Deviations Performance Analysis

We study the large deviations performance, i.e., the exponential decay rate of the error probability, of distributed detection algorithms over random networks. At each time step k each sensor: 1) averages its decision variable with the neighbors decision variables; and 2) accounts on-the-fly for its new observation. We show that distributed detection exhibits a “phase change” behavior. When the...
